P2 F

P2 F – Meaning

The Director of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, JJ Abrams has stated that the film has two main meanings/purposes. Firstly, to bring about a feeling of nostalgia by bringing back elements of the original trilogy that fans have come to know and love over the years, and secondly, to set up a new story that will help continue the saga and add more depth to the already rich in detail Star Wars universe.

Firstly, we will look at how Star Wars: The Force Awakens has tried to give fans a feeling of nostalgia and how it has in many ways purposely mirrored the original trilogy in order to do this. First off, if we take a look at Kylo Ren and the sort of character he was in Star Wars: The Force Awakens it is very hard not to sense echoes of Darth Vadar coming from his presence. This is no accident as in the film Kylo Ren is actually the grandson of Darth Vadar and worships his grandfather hoping to become as notorious and feared as he was throughout the galaxy many years ago. If we take a look at Kylo Ren’s appearance it becomes fairly obvious that he has again taken inspiration from Darth Vadar, wearing all black (including a black helmet) and having a red lightsaber which are all pieces of attire that came with Darth Vadar’s suit which again gave fans a feeling of nostalgia as Kylo Ren is very much all-in-all a modern-day Darth Vadar. Another way JJ Abrams hoped Star Wars: The Force Awakens would give fans a feeling of nostalgia was through the inclusion of old characters from the original trilogy. Beloved characters Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), Han Solo (Harrison Ford), and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) all returned for the 7th instalment in the Star Wars Saga and reprised their roles as the trio we first saw in the original Star Wars trilogy. This gave fans a massive feeling of nostalgia as they had not seen these characters on screen together in over 30 years.

Secondly, if we take a look at what JJ Abrams said about creating a wider story for the Star Wars universe, it becomes clear that Star Wars: The Force Awakens certainly achieved this. The introduction of new main characters such as Rey (Daisey Ridley), Finn (John Boyega) and Kylo Ren have helped pave a new storyline for fans of the Saga to enjoy, with a new Star Wars film now scheduled to be coming out every year for the foreseeable future it looks like the Star Wars storyline is set to be more in depth than ever with the new direction and young cast that Disney has decided to go with for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. With this new Star Wars storyline only being in its early stages, it looks like fans are in store a lot more Star Wars content over the next few years.
