P2 D
P2 D – Style
If we take a look at Kylo Ren and the
sort of character he was in Star Wars: The Force Awakens it is very hard not to
sense echoes of Darth Vadar coming from his presence. This is no accident as in
the film Kylo Ren is actually the grandson of Darth Vadar and worships his
grandfather hoping to become as notorious and feared as he was throughout the
galaxy many years ago. If we take a look at Kylo Ren’s appearance it becomes
fairly obvious that he has again taken inspiration from Darth Vadar, wearing
all black (including a black helmet) and having a red lightsaber which are all
pieces of attire that came with Darth Vadar’s suit which again gave fans a
feeling of nostalgia as Kylo Ren is very much all-in-all a modern-day Darth
Vadar.
The case is similar with BB8 and
R2D2, they have been made very similar due to the formula with R2D2 working so
well, which has in turn gave Disney no reason to really alter the formula too
much, however it could be said that BB8 is more childlike and is often less
immature than R2D2. Never the less, the humanoid-machine relationship is still
there with BB8 getting on fairly well with Finn and Rey, as R2D2 did with
Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi; showing us that not too much has changed
there since the original trilogy and the sequels.
Not only have many characters been
similar to characters in previous Star Wars films, but the iconic intro to each
film has been kept the same throughout each Star Wars film in the saga. The
black background with the vibrant yellow text, with the iconic Star Wars theme
tune blasting in the background, and the text then beginning to move upwards
letting the audience know the backstory of the episode they are about to watch.
This intro is so unique and so tied in with the Star Wars films that it is
highly unlikely that it is ever going to change.
